How do I find books to put on hold?

Answer

If you know what you are looking for:

  1. Search for an item in the catalog by title, author, series, subject or keyword. Access the catalog here.
  2. Once you find a title you want to put on hold, click on Place Request (right-hand side).
  3. Type in your library card and PIN # (if you don't know your PIN #, click on Forgot your PIN? or contact us through chat to reset it) and click Log In.
  4. Set your desired Pickup Library and click on Submit Request.

  1. Find Me Five- Let our expert staff help you find your next great read! Fill out a short form and we’ll put on hold for you a customized list of 5 books based on your answers.There is a form for children, tweens (grades 5-8), teens (grades 9-12) and adults. Click here to try this service.
  2. Surprise Me! BundlesNot sure exactly what you want? That’s ok! Let us pick out some books or DVDs for you. Fill out the short form and we’ll choose 5-20 titles to be waiting for you at the Irving Public Library location of your choice. Fill out the request form here.
  3. Booklists- Try one of the books featured on our staff curated booklists. The lists cover a variety of topics for all ages. See all of our booklists at here or enjoy a relaxing weekend with our binge-worthy lists.
  4. SelectReads- Get recommendations delivered straight to your email every month with our free newsletter service. With almost 40 newsletters in this subscription service there is something for everyone. Sign up for the newsletters that appeal to you here
  5. Featured Title Links and Other Suggestions- On the Staff Recommendations site, you can find other popular services or lists to find your next great read. Also on the catalog page, a the left-hand sidebar includes links to various lists, including Featured New Books, Featured New Media, Award Winners and Educational Resources.
  6. LibChat- Chat with a librarian to get suggestions. The chat box is available on the Library's homepage. Chat hours are: Monday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
